At
our location near Aurora, we have a 15 acre sanctuary for unadoptable
animals and pets that might just need some extra time to get back on
their feet.
We
utilize this place for many reasons. This
location is complete with
large yards and play areas
so that our animals can have cage-less freedom to run and play. The
sanctuary is a perfect place to unwind; pets can bask in the sun, romp
with the other animals, or take a nap under a shade tree.
We
also use the
sanctuary location for quarantine and rehabilitation of our newly
rescued animals. Because C.A.R.E. focuses on the rescue of neglected or
abused pets and animals from death row, many of which have been running
the streets, these animals are not typically ready for immediate
adoption. We must first quarantine animals, while addressing all
necessary veterinary care that each will require. During this
quarantine time, we learn each animal’s individual needs and
personality. So many have been through varying types of abuse and/or
starvation. Often, they are sick or injured and some just have never
experienced love and don’t know how to interact with people.
Each
animal is unique in the time and care they require. We provide
nutritious food, medicine, and most importantly lots of TLC.
As time
progresses the animals begin to trust, we then incorporate some basic
training to help build communication and confidence.
We
are inspired
to see the transformation of a sickly or scared animal into a healthy,
happy and loving pet ready to find his or her new home. Because we have
spent time with each pet, we can better judge what type of home that
each individual animal would best fit into. After the pets go up for
adoption, we screen potential homes until a good match is found. We
strive to match pets and people so that they can better enrich each
others lives. Each one individual and deserving of the love
and
happiness that now lies ahead.
C.A.R.E
is a nonprofit
501(c)(3), no-kill
animal shelter and sanctuary that specializes in helping injured,
abused and neglected animals in the Ozarks. Unfortunately, the
associated medical costs, along with the cost of spaying or neutering,
vaccinations, and deworming, are expensive. We do not charge enough in
adoption fees to offset these costs. C.A.R.E. relies entirely on
donations. You can save a life. Make a difference!
